We obtained the ownership (osu_ownership) coverage from the MCWC CD-ROM.and used the tabulate areas function in ARCView to calculate the areas (ha) of each ownership category for each 6th field. We then created additional fields and calculated the proportion (ownership category / total 6th Field Area) of each category for 6th fields.

We also added the areas in the USFS and BLM to create a federal ownership category.

This table was then joined to the 6th Field Watershed coverage to produce this summary layer.

A list of 6th Field Watersheds ranked by ownership acreage or proportion of area can be generated from this layer.

Data in the owernship layer were summarized as grid cells that were 500 m in size. There is quite a bit of variabilty in ownership (for some of the categories) for 6th Field Watersheds; therefore, this would be a good layer to use in a multi-factor index.
