We obtained the ownership coverage from the MCWC CD_ROM.
Major ownership categories are displayed in the graphic
to the right.
This summary shows major ownership types: BLM, USFS,
PI (Private Industrial)., PNI (Private Non-Industrial),
MISC, and STATE.
Each of these categories is broken down into more detailed
categories in this data layer. For example, major companies
are identified within the industrial timber ownership
category, as are county holdings, etc.
We summarized the proportion of each
ownership
type by 6th Field Watershed as a single-factor summary.
Private Industry (147, 922 ha or 39.9%) is the largest
land holder in the study area, followed by USGS (106,
048.6 ha, 28.6%), PNI (63,008.2, 17.0%), BLM (38,968.2,
10.5%), State (12, 631.3, 3.4%), and MISC (2,358.7, 0.6%).
This layer can be used in multi-factor
summaries. For example, road frequencies (or densities)
or riparian vegetation can be displayed by ownership category.
Data in the ownership layer were summarized
as grid cells that were 500 m in size. There is quite a
bit of variability in the ownership (for many of the categories)
for 6th Field Watersheds; therefore, this would be a good
layer to use in a multi-factor index.
