This summary layer was created by intersecting the 6th
field watershed layer with the CLAMS95 (
Coastal
Landscape Modeling and Analysis Study) landcover layer,
which was provided to the MidCoast Watershed Council by
the CLAMS group at Oregon State University. This resulted
in a DBF that contained the area (square meters) of each
6th Field Watershed occupied by each of the landcover
categories. In addition, we created additional columns
that describe the proportion of each 6th field watershed
occupied by each landcover category.
Recall that there are 14 cover classes in the CLAMS95 data.

Using either the DBF or the ARCView
layer you can color code each 6th field watershed by either
the proportion occupied by each landcover category or by
the absolute area occupied by each landcover category.
Landcover classes were determined by
the CLAMS folks at OSU based on their interpretation of
TM satellite imagery. The classes that they identified included:
background, shadow, water, open, semi-closed, cloud, broadleaf,
mixed-small conifer, mixed- medium conifer, mixed-large
conifer, mixed- very large conifer, small conifer, medium
conifer, large conifer, and very large conifer. (See
Coastal
Landscape Modeling and Analysis Study for details.)
