Riparian Vegetation

Description
Vegetation in riparian areas were summarized in the following way. First, a 100 ft. buffer (100 ft on each side of the stream) was created around the DEM-derived streams. Second, this buffer was used to extract or clip the vegetation from the CLAMS95 (Coastal Landscape Modeling and Analysis Study) data layer.

Recall that there are 14 cover classes in the CLAMS95 data

.

We summarized the absolute amount (sq. meters)and the proportion (percent of total area) of each vegetation cover class by 6th field watershed.
Uses
Ranked lists can be developed using either a spreadsheet or ARCView that depict the 6th field watersheds having the greatest or least proportion of the 14 cover classes.
Notes
Graphic at right shows 6th field watersheds with greatest proportion of Very Large Conifers in the riparian areas. Look at the Range and the Frequency distribution.
