We obtained this roads layer from the MCWC CD-ROM (minrds6) and clipped it, using ARCView, to the study area.

There are 4,865.5 km (3,023.3 mi) of roads mapped in the study area. The over all road density, using this layer, is 0.013 km of roads per ha.

We calculated road densities from these data because they are of uniform scale and cover the entire study area. In addition, we used these data to calculate road frequencies.

Please note that road density results are dependent on the scale of the data, i.e., other roads layers may have more detail and therefore, give different results.
