Information on Fish Distribution
Anadromous Fish Distribution Maps
The type of fish use is shown by the
color of the line on the distribution map. Use types are
briefly defined in the metadata as: Usetype 1= primarily
spawning; Usetype 2 = primarily rearing; and usetype 3 =
primarily migration. More detailed definitions provided
by ODFW in the metadata are as follows:
Usetype 1: Spawning and Rearing
Defined as areas where eggs are deposited
and fertilized, where gravel emergence occurs, and where
at least some juvenile development occurs.
Usetype 2: Rearing and Migration
Defined as areas outside primary spawning
habitats where juvenile fish take up residence during some
stage of juvenile development and utilize the area for feeding,
shelter, and growth. Some migration also occurs as juvenile
and adult fish move between the ocean and spawning grounds.
Usetype 3: Migration
Defined as areas where juvenile and/or
adult fish pass through as they move between the ocean and
spawning and rearing areas. While all migratory corridors
provide some rearing opportunities, areas with this designation
are distinguished by fish moving through fairly quickly
making making contributions to juvenile rearing insignificant.
4 Historic. Areas of suitable habitat that fish no longer
access and will not access in the foreseeable future without
human intervention.
