These maps depict data obtained from
the ODFW
website.
The maps show the areas of suitable habitat within the study
area that are currently believed by ODFW to be used by chum,
spring chinook, and summer steelhead. The map has separate
color coding for three categories of habitat: spawning,
rearing, and migration. Separate coverages were obtained
for each 4th field, so there are two GIS coverages for each
species:
- chum_alsutm: chum within Alsea 4th
field
- chum_syutm: chum within Siletz/Yaquina
4th field
- spch_alsutm: spring chinook within
Alsea 4th field
- spch_syutm: spring Chinook within
Siletz/Yaquina 4th field
- sust_syutm: summer steelhead within
Siletz/Yaquina 4th field.
These coverages are found in mc6_GIS/bio. (No mapped summer
steelhead habitat exists within the Alsea 4th field.) The
"utm" ending on each filename indicates that these files
were reprojected to UTM coordinates to match the standard
projection for the MidCoast study area.

In addition, we
counted the number of Salmonid Biotypes for each
6th field watershed.
Caution: some of the streams may not be represented
on the 100K maps used by ODFW so the distribtions
represented may not be entirely accurate. |
For these three anadromous species,
for which distribution within the study area is quite limited,
these maps may help focus action intended to benefit these
species. However, the maps are not guaranteed
to represent all habitat utilized by these species, nor
are the areas shown as habitat necessarily utilized every
year. For example, since the data are mapped on the
1:100k streams layer, and not all streams are shown on that
layer, some habitat used by these species may be missing
from the maps.
ODFW provides metadata for the distribution
maps (stored in mc6_GIS/bio as chum.htm, sust.htm, and wist.htm).
