About MidCoast Watersheds
Council
Our Mission
The MidCoast Watersheds Council is a local non-profit
organization dedicated to improving the health of streams and watersheds
in the midcoast area.
We are governed by a board of directors and officers.
Decisions are made by consensus of the board of our regular monthly

Committees, such as the admin committee and the technical team provide
oversight and guidance for decision making.

The MidCoast Watersheds Council is involved in conducting
rapid bio-assessments of coho distribution in MidCoast Watersheds and
estuarine assessments of Yaquina and Alsea Bay.
MCWC maintains a Geographic Information Systems database and 6th field
assessment for MidCoast Watersheds.
Our on-the-ground projects include riparian fencing and planting, culvert
replacement, in-stream log structures, bank stabilization, and tidelands
and estuarine restoration, as well as site specific monitoring and
long-term basin scale monitoring.
Our community education and outreach programs include a Stream Scene
program for grades 6-12, monthly meetings and
other activities, a MidCoast Watersheds News
newsletter, and press releases and other news.
We maintain Basin Planning Teams in the following areas:

The MidCoast Watersheds Council sponsors educational
speakers at the PUD building in Newport
on the first Thursday of every month.
If you are interested in volunteering, each basin planning team has
opportunities for volunteer monitoring, including water quality sampling,
salmon spawning surveys, invasive weed removal, and other activities.
If you have land and are willing to participate in conservation and
restoration projects, please contact the MidCoast Watersheds Council office.
